Dr. Dickerson’s Approach to Care
At the heart of Dr. Dickerson’s practice is a deep belief in partnership. She views the physician-patient relationship as a true collaboration, one where patients are active participants in their own care, not simply recipients of instructions. Rather than dictating a course of treatment, she coaches patients through decisions, ensuring their voices are heard and their values are respected.
“Being a doctor is a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly,” she says. “My goal is to build a relationship based on trust so I can help patients not only medically but in all areas of their life.” Her approach is informed by her expertise in family medicine alongside her strong interest in functional medicine, which she sees as a powerful complement to traditional care. She is focused on the mind-body connection and on identifying the root causes of illness before they develop into something more serious.
“Our current treatment model is sometimes just, ‘These are the symptoms, and these are the medicines to suppress them,’” she adds. “Functional medicine is different. It considers the major functions of the body and whether they are working properly, when they go wrong, how to repair them. If they aren’t operating correctly, we want to find and treat the problem before it develops into an actual disease.”
This philosophy is grounded in her passion for helping people. Dr. Dickerson understands the responsibility that comes with being a physician, and takes it seriously. She listens carefully, sees patients through deeply personal matters, and draws genuine fulfillment from knowing she has made a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
Education & Training
Dr. Dickerson always knew that medicine was her calling. By age five, she was carrying a red plastic toy medical bag, already telling people she was going to be a doctor. That early certainty never wavered; she kept her focus, pursued her education with determination until her dream came to fruition, and built a career defined by that same drive to help people.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology (pre-med) from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, before going on to receive her M.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. She completed her residency at Hanover Family Physicians in Mechanicsville, Virginia, and is board certified in family practice by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Dickerson also completed coursework in functional medicine, an area of special and growing interest.
“I am dedicated to providing comprehensive and personalized care for my patients,” she says of her medical education, and of her commitment to advancing patient outcomes through the research arena. In fact, over the past decade, she has participated in 20 clinical research trials spanning insulin therapy, cardiovascular events, gout, meningitis, hypertension, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and osteoarthritis – work that directly contributes to better treatments and care standards for patients everywhere.

In addition to family and volunteerism, Dr. Dickerson is proud to host The Part II Podcast focused on women and healthcare professionals, exploring the pivotal moments and experiences that have inspired change in their lives. The show airs on an internet-based radio platform with more than one million listeners.
Ever entrepreneurial, Dr. Dickerson is currently developing Evin Skincare Rx, a physician-created, white-label skincare line she is building in collaboration with a chemist, currently in the testing phase.
