Too often, we ignore our hunger in favor of knocking an item off of our to-do list, which inevitably leads to an afternoon “pick-me-up” from a vending machine or convenience store. Or perhaps, we hold off just long enough to succumb to the temptation of pastries in the break room or cakes during colleague celebrations.

Be Prepared

Meal prepping is a helpful (and healthy) habit to learn. Try to pack your lunchtime meal each day, along with some healthy snacks. We also suggest stashing a few emergency snack bars in your desk just in case hunger strikes. Remember – if you fail to prep, you prep to fail.

Stick to your Schedule

Develop a consistent eating schedule and try to follow it. Eating at regularly anticipated times during the day helps control hunger and stave off cravings. Curbing your hunger also helps you stick to your food plan even if bagels or donuts appear during meetings.

Create a Healthy Zone

You are in control of your dedicated workspace. Although you can’t control the overall office choices, you can choose to make your desk or office a junk food-free zone. To help you avoid the temptation of a snack attack, make sure to dispose of any off-limit foods from your desk drawers or cabinets.

Find Alternative Routes

Do you have a colleague with a beautiful candy dish that’s always calling your name or a break room that’s never devoid of cookies? If so, seek out alternate office routes that steer you away from these temptations. If the alternate route happens to be “the long way” to your destination, then an added benefit is the extra steps you’ll squeeze in during the day.
